Official US Diversity Visa (DV-2026/2027) Photo Specifications
The United States Department of State enforces strict automated biometric screening for all Diversity Visa (Green Card Lottery) entries. Submitting a non-compliant photo results in instant disqualification before your entry is even considered.
The image must be square (1:1 aspect ratio), exactly 600 × 600 pixels (up to 1200 × 1200 px). Rectangular photos are rejected.
Must be less than or equal to 240 KB (245,760 bytes). The file must be saved in standard JPEG format with 24-bit sRGB color space.
The head height (from top of hair to bottom of chin) must occupy between 50% and 69% of the total photo height (300 to 414 pixels).
Eye height must be between 56% and 69% (336 to 414 pixels) measured from the bottom of the image. Both eyes must be open and looking directly at camera.
Eyeglasses are banned under all circumstances. Hats and head coverings are only permitted for religious reasons and must not obscure the face or hairline.
Must be taken against a plain white or off-white background with even lighting. Shadows on the face, neck, or background cause disqualification.

Can I take my DV Lottery photo with my phone?
Yes! Stand about 4–5 feet away in front of a white wall in good daylight. Have someone take the photo (do not take a selfie to avoid wide-angle lens distortion). Then use this tool to crop and verify 600×600 px and file size under 240 KB.
Can I wear eyeglasses or contact lenses?
No eyeglasses of any kind (prescription or sunglasses) are allowed. Even with a medical note, the State Department heavily scrutinizes them. Clear contact lenses are acceptable.
Can I reuse last year's photo for the Green Card Lottery?
No. The photo must have been taken within the last 6 months. Department of State facial recognition systems compare previous submissions and will instantly disqualify duplicate photos.
