Frequently asked questions
- How do I split a long video into 60-second parts for WhatsApp Status?
- Upload the video, keep the part length at 60 seconds and press Split video. You get numbered MP4 files (part 1 of 5, part 2 of 5 …) that you can post to WhatsApp Status in order. In the default fast mode no part is ever longer than 60 seconds, so WhatsApp will not cut anything off.
- Why are some parts slightly shorter than 60 seconds?
- Fast mode copies the video without re-encoding, which keeps the original quality and takes only seconds. A copied clip has to start on a keyframe, so each cut is placed on the last keyframe before the limit, usually within a second or two of it. Turn on Exact length if every part must be exactly 60.0 seconds; that re-encodes the video and takes longer.
- Can I choose a different length, like 30 seconds or 3 minutes?
- Yes. Pick 15 s, 30 s, 60 s, 90 s or 3 minutes, or type any length from 5 to 600 seconds. Instagram Stories take up to 60 seconds per clip and YouTube Shorts up to 3 minutes.
- Is my video uploaded to a server?
- No. The video is read and cut inside your browser using WebCodecs, so it never leaves your device and there is no upload wait. It needs a recent Chrome, Edge, Safari 16.4+ or Firefox 130+.
- Does splitting reduce quality or add a watermark?
- No watermark is ever added. In fast mode the parts are bit-for-bit copies of the original video and sound. Exact mode re-encodes the video at high quality, which can soften fine detail very slightly.

Splitting a video into 60-second parts
Upload a long video and get it back as numbered clips of a set length, ready to post in order on WhatsApp Status, Instagram Stories or YouTube Shorts.
Which length to pick
WhatsApp Status and Instagram Stories take clips of up to 60 seconds, which is why 60 s is the default. Use 30 s for shorter story formats, 90 s for Instagram Reels drafts, or 3 minutes for YouTube Shorts. Any length from 5 to 600 seconds can be typed in.
Fast mode and exact mode
Fast mode copies the compressed video straight into each part without re-encoding it, so quality is untouched and even an hour-long file splits in seconds. Because a clip must begin on a keyframe, each cut is placed on the last keyframe before the limit: parts can come out a second or two short, but never over the limit, so apps will not trim them. Exact mode re-encodes every part so each one is exactly the chosen length; it is slower and softens detail very slightly.
What you download
Parts are MP4 files named in order, such as holiday-part-03-of-12.mp4, with the original sound. Preview any part on the page, download them one at a time, or take them all at once as a ZIP. Very large results download one after another instead, because zipping gigabytes inside a browser tab can run out of memory.
Formats, browsers and privacy
It reads MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV files whose video your browser can decode, and needs a recent Chrome, Edge, Safari 16.4+ or Firefox 130+. Everything happens on your own device, so the video is never uploaded and there is no server-side size limit.
